Jerry's first band - The Doghouse Dozen

These are a couple of pictures of the first band I played in at age 15. We had
a radio and TV show but most of our playing was in saloons and nightclubs
because those were the only places jazz was played.
I envy the fact that young players today have the opportunity to experience
so many playing and performing venues in the public school systems.
I guess to put a positive spin on my early experiences, I could say that
I received an education in life before I ever graduated from high school.
Members of the Doghouse Dozen

- Rollie Covert - Clarinet
- Al Holbert - Trumpet
- Fred Holbert - Piano
- Pete Powell - Trombone
- Harry Spicknail - Bass
I am the only member of this band that went on to a professional
career in music. But all of the other members have had successful
careers in other fields.
