Formed in 1985, Jerry Coleman's Nineburner is
one of the most exciting bands on the Chicago jazz scene. This nine-piece
ensemble brings a jazz anthology to audiences with the best of a century
of great jazz as interpreted by some of today's finest jazz musicians.
Throughout the history of jazz, certain composers and players stand out.
In-
comparable artists such as Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington,
Billy Strayhorn, Tadd Dameron, Cole Porter, Thad Jones, Hoagy Carmichael,
and Clifford Brown, to name just a few, have left their indelible influence
on this ever-changing art form. By offering a cross-section of these great
artists' works as well as contempory original material, the Nineburner provides

while at the same time allowing a great amount of freedom and space within
